Pakistan had terrible floods in 2010 and during that time the then President Zardari continued his jolly in Europe including a visit to his chateau in France. Politics in Pakistan is a very well paid job indeed.

Now, Pakistan is yet again facing catastrophic flooding, but as it is always thew case in Pakistan, the country is now collectively blaming everyone but themselves. Dawn Newspaper has an editorial blaming rich countries (and yes I agree climate change is an issue), but not once does it question the authorities for their uselessness. No one is asking the question that despite being independent since 1947, Pakistan is still relying on colonial era Sukkur Barrage, a colonial-era sluice system that redistributes the waters of the Indus along 6,000 miles of canals.

A country that has money for nuclear weapon cannot build better flood systems? Why were no lessons learnt after 2010? Why did no one think about investing in that? There is money, money is always coming in Pakistan but it never seems to be invested in anything of importance. It always seem to disappear.

The deforestation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been on going for years and yet no one thought about educating the people about the dangers of it and doing something to reverse that damage? Is that also the fault of the western and richer countries that deforestation is happening in Pakistan? Should someone from outside the country do the work for the government?

The ones in charge do not do anything to improve the standard of living of people. They fight amongst themselves for opportunities to line their pockets and poor remain poorer. Yet again millions are left destitute in Pakistan and now Pakistan is blaming others. When will Pakistani authorities ever take responsibility for their short comings?
